Tesla Starts Hiring in Vietnam Ahead of Market Entry

Tesla has begun recruiting a local management team in Vietnam, adding to signs that the electric-vehicle maker is preparing to enter the Southeast Asian market.

A regional Tesla recruiter announced five openings Wednesday covering sales, service, human resources, purchasing and charging development. The positions include Sales Manager, Service Manager, HR Business Partner, Purchasing Manager and Project Developer, Charging.

The hiring follows the September registration of Tesla Motors Vietnam LLC in Ho Chi Minh City. The subsidiary was established with about 77.7 billion Vietnamese dong, roughly $3 million, in charter capital, according to reports.

Tesla is hiring for five roles in Vietnam; no launch date, models or prices announced.

The openings cover retail, delivery, service operations, staffing, sourcing and charging-site development. They do not establish plans for a factory or local vehicle assembly.

Tesla has not announced a Vietnam launch date, vehicle lineup, prices or locations for showrooms and charging sites. The hiring is a step toward a local operation, rather than confirmation that customers can already order cars in the country.

The company would enter a market led by domestic electric-vehicle maker VinFast. Reports from TNGlobal, Electrek and EV describe the recruitment and the remaining questions about Tesla’s plans.
