Today, the 22nd of Sivan, marks the Yahrtzeit of Rabbi Nosson Eliyahu Gertzulin ZT”L.

Rav Gertzulin ZT”L arrived with his family on American shores and settled with his family in Philadelphia in 1931. Even before he reached bar-mitzvah, he left his home for Yeshiva Torah Vodaath, where he remained until his petirah. With several great-grandchildren currently talmidim of the Yeshiva, the family’s kesher with Torah Vodaath now spans five generations.
Rav Shraga Feivel Mendlowitz ZT”L held Rav Nosson Eliyahu ZT”L in such high esteem that in 1942 he appointed him as the Yeshiva’s first Bais Medrash Mashgiach, still as a bochur. As Mashgiach, he understood the individual circumstances and difficulties of each bochur. At the end of the 1960’s he became a Maggid Shiur and continued to administer regular bechinos to the bochurim. Although for many years ill health and poor eyesight curtailed his public activities, Rav Gertzulin continued to learn with great hasmada.
