U.S. Investigates Engine Failure Risk in 1.4 Million Honda and Acura Vehicles Due to Potential Defective Parts

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has launched an investigation into potential engine failures affecting 1.4 million Honda and Acura vehicles. The probe includes the 2016–2020 Honda Pilot, 2018–2020 Honda Odyssey, Acura MDX, Acura TLX, and the 2017–2019 Honda Ridgeline.

The issue reportedly stems from connecting rod bearing failures in 3.5-liter V6 engines, which can cause total engine failure. Honda previously issued a recall in November 2023 for about 250,000 vehicles to address this defect, but the NHTSA has since received 173 complaints from owners whose vehicles were not covered by the recall. One incident involved a crash with no reported injuries.

Now, the agency has opened a recall query to assess the extent of the defect and determine if additional models require attention. Honda has pledged to cooperate fully with the investigation.
