President Donald Trump warned that an Israeli strike on Iran “could well happen” as his administration worked to defuse escalating tensions in the Middle East. In an urgent push for diplomacy, Trump said he aims to avoid a regional conflict that could threaten American military personnel and destabilize key international relationships.
The warning came hours before Israel launched what it described as a preemptive strike against Iranian military infrastructure. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz declared a state of emergency nationwide, citing an anticipated retaliation from Iran through missile and drone attacks targeting civilian areas. Air raid sirens echoed across Israel in anticipation of incoming strikes.
Trump administration officials confirmed that the United States will not offer military support for any Israeli actions against Iran. According to two senior U.S. officials familiar with the matter, Israel had been informed of this policy stance as American leadership attempts to keep direct involvement off the table.
“I would love to avoid a conflict,” Trump stated during a press conference, reaffirming his commitment to prevent another war in the region. While Israel escalates its military posture, the Trump administration remains focused on reigniting nuclear negotiations with Iran to reduce the risk of a broader conflict.

Iran, meanwhile, has intensified its nuclear enrichment activities and has continued to expand its military alliances with Russia, including discussions about the removal of highly enriched uranium in exchange for diplomatic cooperation. The Iranian government has publicly condemned Israel’s action and vowed to respond forcefully.
On the ground, the humanitarian situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate, with aid organizations reporting growing food shortages and mounting civilian casualties. At the same time, negotiations for the release of remaining hostages held by Hamas have stalled, further complicating the region’s crisis.
The U.S. has also begun partial evacuations of embassies and military bases in nearby countries as a precaution. Trump’s national security team remains in constant communication with both Israeli and regional partners in an effort to prevent a full-scale war.
Flights to Tel Aviv Ben Gurion International Airport appear to be being diverted to holding patterns over the water.
