Best Buy and Ikea are teaming up to bring a new in-store experience to U.S. shoppers through a pilot program that merges kitchen design with home technology. The collaboration will launch this fall in 10 Best Buy locations across Florida and Texas, with each store featuring a dedicated 1,000-square-foot showroom highlighting Ikea’s signature kitchen and laundry setups alongside Best Buy’s wide range of appliances.
The innovative “shop-in-shop” concept allows customers to explore fully designed kitchen and laundry room displays, consult with Ikea’s home design experts, and select appliances with assistance from Best Buy associates all in one location. This approach aims to offer a seamless, one-stop solution for shoppers planning home renovations or new builds.
“By bringing together our home furnishing expertise, products, and services with Best Buy’s leadership in appliances and technology, we’re creating a one-stop destination where customers can design their dream kitchen, storage solutions or laundry space with ease,” said Rob Olson, Chief Operating Officer of Ikea U.S.
While the financial terms of the partnership were not disclosed, the collaboration signals a strategic pivot for both retailers as they seek to adapt to shifting consumer behaviors and challenging market conditions.
Best Buy, a leading U.S. electronics retailer, has been under pressure from declining appliance sales, slowing tech demand, and a cooling housing market. Tariff-related cost increases have also forced the company to raise prices on some items earlier this year, further impacting consumer demand. The partnership with Ikea is seen as a strategic effort to revitalize foot traffic and engage consumers with higher-value home projects.
For Ikea, the collaboration opens new distribution and engagement channels in the U.S., especially as consumers increasingly seek integrated solutions for home improvement. Known globally for its ready-to-assemble furniture and Scandinavian design aesthetic, Ikea is positioning itself to compete more directly in the growing home renovation and smart appliance space.
The showrooms will feature curated room designs that blend form and function, giving customers the opportunity to visualize how Ikea cabinetry, countertops, and storage systems can pair with Best Buy’s leading appliance brands. Staff from both companies will be available to assist customers with design consultations, product selection, and purchasing.
Retail analysts note that the timing of the partnership is particularly important as more consumers weigh larger home improvement purchases amid inflation and a more cautious spending environment. By bundling services and offering visual inspiration in-store, the pilot aims to shorten the buying cycle and simplify decision-making for customers.
If the trial run proves successful, the concept could expand to more locations across the country, offering both brands an opportunity to strengthen market presence and redefine the shopping experience in a competitive retail landscape.
