Apple unveiled its first touchscreen MacBook Pro on Wednesday, bringing touch controls and an OLED display to its professional laptop lineup after years of keeping the Mac focused on keyboard and trackpad input.

The new models come in 14-inch and 16-inch sizes with M5 Pro or M5 Max chips. Apple says users will be able to scroll, pinch to zoom and move items directly on the screen while continuing to use familiar keyboard shortcuts and trackpad gestures.
OLED display and a familiar Mac experience
Apple calls the new screen the PROLED XDR Display. It uses tandem OLED technology and supports a variable refresh rate of up to 120Hz. The laptops still run macOS, rather than the iPhone or iPad operating system.
The redesign also brings the Dynamic Island to the Mac, along with a thinner and lighter body. Apple says battery life can reach up to 24 hours, depending on the configuration and use.
Prices start at $2,899
In the United States, the 14-inch model with M5 Pro starts at $2,899, while the 16-inch version starts at $3,399. M5 Max versions start at $4,499 for the 14-inch and $4,799 for the 16-inch.
Apple says preorders opened Wednesday, October 28, with deliveries and store availability beginning Friday, November 6.
Full specifications and configuration details are available in Apple’s announcement.
