Drivers heading into New York City this weekend should plan for widespread road and bridge closures as the NYC Marathon takes over its five-borough route on Sunday, November 1.

The race begins on the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge, passes through Staten Island, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Manhattan, and finishes in Central Park. The wheelchair division is scheduled to start at 8 a.m., with other groups following through the morning.
Bridge closures begin Saturday night
According to the city’s closure notice, the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge’s upper level is scheduled to close in both directions at 11 p.m. Saturday, October 31. Its lower level is scheduled to close in both directions at 7 a.m. Sunday.
Sunday restrictions also affect the Ed Koch Queensboro, Pulaski, Willis Avenue and Madison Avenue bridges. Roads along the course and around the start and finish areas will close at different times, with some parking restrictions beginning Saturday.
Check your route before leaving
The city warns that closures and reopenings can happen on a rolling basis, may change without notice and are at the NYPD’s discretion. Drivers should not assume every road will reopen at the same time.
Anyone planning a cross-borough trip, airport run, pickup or delivery should allow extra time and check current traffic conditions before setting out.
