Vice President J.D. Vance and Agriculture Secretary Brooke L. Rollins announced Monday that meat processors in 40 states are expected to receive $57 million to expand capacity and create new markets through the Meat and Poultry Processing Expansion Program.
Pending a congressional allotment, USDA Rural Development will invest a total of $57,424,130 in 147 tentative awards across 40 states. The program provides grants to help independent processors expand capacity, encourage competition and improve supply-chain resiliency.
Rollins said the investment builds on President Trump’s executive order promoting fair competition in livestock markets and is meant to help rebuild the American cattle herd. USDA has awarded more than $200 million to independent businesses under the program.
