New York Gov. Kathy Hochul received a welcome from more than 6,000 students at the Bais Rochel girls’ school in Kiryas Joel on Monday, in a large community event ahead of the Nov. 3 gubernatorial election.
“@GovKathyHochul received a royal welcome today from over 6000 Bais Rochel students in Kiryas Joel, NY,” Joel M. Petlin, superintendent of the Kiryas Joel School District, wrote on X. “The massive event was organized to show appreciation for the Governor’s support for religious education, and for approving the new Federal education tax credit for parents.”

Hochul was accompanied by Gedalya Szegedin, the village administrator, and Moshe Indig, an Ahoronim political liaison, along with other village leaders. Banners at the event read “Kiryas Joel Welcomes Governor Kathy Hochul” and “Thank You Governor Hochul – For Protecting Our Schools.”

Kiryas Joel, home to a large Satmar Hasidic community in Orange County, is an important stop for candidates seeking support from Orthodox Jewish voters. The visit comes as Hochul campaigns for another term as governor against Republican challenger Bruce Blakeman. Election Day is Nov. 3.
