Benny Gantz Drops Out Of Election Race Eight Days Before October 27 Vote

Blue and White chairman Benny Gantz announced Monday that he will not run in the upcoming election, dropping out of the race just eight days before Israelis head to the polls on October 27.

Gantz’s Blue and White party had been polling below the 3.25% electoral threshold needed to enter the Knesset. Many of the party’s former allies have joined Gadi Eisenkot’s Yashar party, and MK Hili Tropper is among its recent departures.

“I will not run in the upcoming election. I will continue fighting for unity. This is the only solution that will prevent another disaster and protect Israel against all challenges, at home and abroad,” Gantz said.

Gantz is expected to hold a press conference Monday evening.

Eisenkot welcomed the announcement, calling it a “correct and responsible decision.” Yair Golan also praised the move.

Blue and White will remain on the ballot, but votes cast for the party will not count. Soldiers begin voting Tuesday.
