Russia Faces Urgent Labor Crisis as 11 Million Workers Needed by 2030

Russia is on the brink of a major workforce crisis, with nearly 11 million new workers needed by the end of this decade to offset a wave of retirements and support economic growth, according to the country’s Labor Minister.

In a high-level meeting on demographic policy, Labor Minister Anton Kotyakov warned President Vladimir Putin that the country must integrate around 2 million people into the workforce annually through 2030. Of the total 10.9 million required, only 800,000 are expected to be newly created jobs. The remaining 10.1 million will be needed simply to replace workers reaching retirement age.

“This is a structural challenge,” Kotyakov said during the televised briefing. “Our demographic trends are pointing to a significant shortfall in labor, which could severely impact Russia’s political and economic trajectory.”
