More than 1.1 million Anker PowerCore 10000 power banks are being recalled following multiple reports of overheating incidents that led to fires, explosions, and injuries. The voluntary recall, affecting units sold between June 2016 and December 2022, is being carried out due to a critical battery defect that poses serious safety risks.
The affected devices are lithium-ion battery power banks bearing model number “A1263” and specific serial numbers, which were sold across major online platforms, including Amazon, Newegg, eBay, and Anker’s own website. A warning has been issued for customers to stop using the product immediately, even if it appears to be functioning normally.
According to safety officials, the internal battery defect can lead to the overheating of components, melting plastic, and creating fire hazards. So far, at least 19 incidents have been documented. Among them, two resulted in minor burns and 11 caused property damage totaling over $60,000.
Anker has stated that the recall is being conducted “out of an abundance of caution” and emphasized that customer safety is their top priority. Consumers who own the affected units are advised to stop using them right away and begin the process of registering for a replacement.
To qualify for a replacement, customers must submit a photograph showing the model and serial numbers, their name, the date, and the word “recalled” written directly on the power bank with permanent marker. Proof of proper disposal at a certified lithium battery facility must also be provided. These devices are not safe to dispose of in regular trash or standard recycling systems due to their hazardous nature.
Customers can use local municipal hazardous waste collection programs to dispose of the devices safely. Anker’s website offers a recall registration page and detailed instructions to guide affected users through the process.
If a replacement unit is unavailable due to inventory limitations, the company is offering a $30 gift card as an alternative, giving customers the option to wait or accept the store credit.
